Palliative care and hospice support during COVID-19 pandemic – Lessons Learned

Palliative/hospice teams play important roles in supporting patients and their families affected by COVID-19. Palliative care doctors and nurses are trained in relieving all symptoms including pain, breathlessness and delirium that can be seen in a COVID patients at different phases of illness. In this context, the palliative team support includes pharmacological approach with careful titration of opioids and antipsychotic medications to calm a hypoxic and restless patient, thus avoiding restraint
